KVA: Illegal Operators Manipulate Google Autocomplete in Netherlands

Dutch affiliate certification association KVA stated on its LinkedIn profile that iGaming operators without a Dutch license are manipulating Google's search autocomplete suggestions.

According to the organization, general online casino search queries regularly trigger autocomplete suggestions pointing to specific domains that lack Dutch licensing. KVA identified a separate concern as well: Google's algorithm reportedly suggests search terms such as "online casino without Cruks," referring to the Dutch self-exclusion registry, and "best online casino abroad," on its own, without any apparent manipulation by third parties.

The association's claims add to growing scrutiny of Google's role in facilitating access to unlicensed gambling platforms in the Netherlands, extending beyond previously flagged issues with paid advertising to include organic search behavior and autocomplete functionality. The distinction KVA draws between operator-manipulated suggestions and algorithmically generated ones highlights two separate challenges regulators and industry groups may need to address, since remedies for deliberate manipulation would likely differ from those needed to adjust Google's underlying suggestion algorithm.
