Google to Ban Croatia-Targeted Gambling Content Ads Oct 7

Sarah Connor

Google will prohibit advertising targeted at Croatia that promotes online gambling content starting October 7, as part of an update to its Gambling and Games policy within Google Ads.

Under the updated policy, all existing certifications held by advertisers promoting such content will be revoked, and Google will stop accepting new certification applications for this category going forward. The restriction specifically applies to advertising that promotes gambling-related content rather than gambling operators themselves, meaning advertisements from licensed iGaming operators are not affected by this particular update.

The distinction between gambling content promotion and operator advertising suggests Google is targeting a specific category of advertisers, likely including affiliate sites, tipster services, or gambling-adjacent media, rather than the licensed betting and casino brands themselves. The policy change adds to Google's evolving approach to gambling advertising across different jurisdictions, with certification requirements and restrictions varying by country based on local regulatory frameworks and licensing conditions.
