Indonesia Fires 13 Officials for Illegal Gambling Activity

Michael Ashworth

Indonesia's Minister of Agriculture announced the dismissal of 13 senior ministry officials after they were found to have gambled with unnamed illegal iGaming operators, according to a report by Antara News.

According to the minister, the decision followed an internal investigation prompted by reports submitted to the ministry regarding staff involvement in illegal gambling activity. Some of the dismissed officials had previously received warnings for similar violations before the latest action was taken. One official was found to have deposited approximately $12,300 with an illegal operator, according to the ministry's findings.

The dismissals reflect ongoing efforts by Indonesian government institutions to enforce internal compliance measures against illegal gambling participation among civil servants, adding to broader national enforcement efforts targeting illegal iGaming platforms operating within the country. The scale of deposits reported for at least one official suggests significant sums were involved despite the platforms' unlicensed status, underscoring the continued reach of illegal gambling operators even among government employees subject to internal oversight.
