Buenos Aires Bars Child Support Debtors From Betting

The Buenos Aires city legislature passed a law barring individuals with unpaid child support debts from accessing iGaming products offered by operators in the city, according to a report by Infobae. The law's passage was confirmed by its author, city legislator Leandro Santoro, on his X profile.

Under the new law, operators are now required to automatically check prospective users against the Public Registry of Child Support Debtors before registration and deny access to anyone identified in the database. Existing accounts belonging to such debtors must be immediately blocked, with notification sent to both the registry and the court handling the relevant support recovery case. The restriction covers account opening and management, betting activity, deposits, and withdrawals, and also applies to products offered by city-operated LOTBA.

The measure adds financial enforcement teeth to Argentina's child support system by directly targeting gambling access, a novel approach compared to more conventional debt collection mechanisms like wage garnishment or asset seizure. By requiring operators to actively cross-reference users against the debtor registry rather than relying on self-reporting, the law places direct compliance obligations on gambling platforms operating within Buenos Aires city limits.
