Google Autocomplete Draws Criticism Over Illegal Casino Ads

Dutch affiliate association KVA has accused Google of allowing search autocomplete suggestions to direct users toward illegal online casino websites, according to a report by iGaming Business.

The organization examined Google's autocomplete and suggested search terms, identifying phrases including "online casino zonder Cruks" (online casino without Cruks) and "beste online casino buitenland" (best foreign online casino) among the suggestions surfaced. KVA believes illegal operators and affiliate websites may be manipulating autocomplete algorithms to generate additional organic traffic toward unlicensed platforms. No specific data on search volume or ranking positions for the flagged terms was disclosed in the report.

Google already cooperates with Dutch authorities to remove paid advertisements promoting illegal casinos, but KVA is calling on the company to extend similar enforcement to organic search results and autocomplete suggestions. The complaint highlights a gap between existing paid-advertising enforcement and organic search visibility, an area regulators and industry associations across multiple markets have increasingly scrutinized as illegal operators seek alternative channels to reach players once traditional advertising routes are restricted.
