Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reported that Facebook accounted for 78% of all takedown requests for illegal gambling content between January 1 and August 17, 2026, according to a report by iGaming Today. YouTube followed with 18% of requests, while TikTok accounted for 4%.
Over this period, MCMC submitted a total of 470,593 takedown requests to platforms for illegal content. Providers complied with 93% of these requests, resulting in the removal of 436,661 items. Online gambling represented the largest category of violations, making up 64% of all takedown requests, while fraudulent content accounted for an additional 27%. Combined, gambling and scam-related content represented 91% of all requests submitted by the regulator. As of August 17, approximately 34,000 requests remained unresolved.
The figures highlight Facebook's outsized role in hosting illegal gambling promotion within the Malaysian market compared to other major social platforms, placing continued pressure on Meta to strengthen enforcement against unlicensed gambling advertising. With gambling and fraud together driving the vast majority of regulatory takedown activity, the data suggests Malaysian authorities are likely to maintain a sustained focus on social media enforcement as a primary tool against illegal online gambling promotion in the months ahead.
