A representative of Play971, the only licensed betting platform in the United Arab Emirates, shared insights into which sports and bet types draw the most interest among players on the country's regulated market.

According to Play971 Chief Commercial Officer Philippa Bowland, football has emerged as one of the primary drivers of betting activity, with major international matches and European club tournaments generating the strongest engagement. During one recent major football tournament, which Bowland did not name specifically, match winner and total goals markets proved especially popular, while in-play betting activity increased notably during the tournament's final. Cricket also stood out as a significant betting category, with Play971 attributing the sport's strong appeal to its popularity among the UAE's large expatriate national communities.

The findings offer a rare glimpse into player behavior on the UAE's regulated betting market, which remains limited to a single licensed operator. The strong performance of both football and cricket reflects the country's diverse resident population, with football drawing broad international appeal and cricket resonating particularly with South Asian expatriate communities that make up a significant share of the UAE's residents.
