Brazil's regulated online gambling market generated $3.85 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) during the first half of 2026, marking a 15.3% year-on-year increase, according to data from regulator SPA published by BNLData following a request under Brazil's access-to-information law.
The report shows total payouts to players reached $72.4 billion, with GGR peaking at $822 million in January before falling to a half-year low of $640 million in June, a month that coincided with 72 matches of the 2026 football World Cup. The market included 188 brands (+3.3% YoY) operating under 87 licensed iGaming operators (+11.5% YoY). Player activity data showed 30,895,934 active registrations by unique CPF tax numbers, with average player spending of $124 for the half-year, up 5% year-on-year. Players under 40 accounted for 72.23% of the base, 68.47% were male, and the largest age group, 31-40, represented 28.95% of registrations.
According to BNLData's analysis, the figures contradict earlier forecasts of explosive market growth driven by the World Cup, with the January peak instead attributed to state championship and Brazilian Série A schedules shifting earlier in the year to accommodate the summer tournament. The report also noted the 30.9 million registration figure spans 18 months rather than a single half-year, making direct comparison to H1 2025's 17.7 million figure inaccurate. Brazil's finance minister stated that as of August 13, more than 5 million Brazilians remain barred from licensed betting access, including welfare recipients, self-excluded players, and participants in a debt restructuring program.
