Portugal's online gambling market generated €328.2 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 14.4% year-on-year increase, according to a quarterly report published this week by national regulator SRIJ.
Online casino GGR reached €203.1 million (+14.2% YoY), while betting GGR came in at €125.1 million (+14.6% YoY). Tax revenue from the sector totaled €92.1 million, up 13.4% year-on-year. Total turnover for online casino stood at €5.69 billion (+13%), with slots accounting for 81.6% of that figure. Betting turnover reached €515.6 million (+12.7%), with football representing 69.9% of the total. Player registrations climbed to 4.91 million overall (+1%), including 1.21 million active accounts in Q2 (+8.4%) and 248,400 new registrations (+17.7%). Portuguese nationals made up 93.6% of registered players, while Brazilians represented the largest share of foreign registrations at 46.1%.
By the end of Q2, 17 operators held 30 licenses in the Portuguese market, split across online casino (17), betting (12), and bingo (1). SRIJ issued 95 cease-and-desist notices to unlicensed operators, sent 113 site-blocking requests to internet service providers, and referred 6 cases to the public prosecutor's office. Notably, online casino's share of total GGR declined year-on-year for the first time in five consecutive Q2 reports, slipping to 61.9% from 62% in 2025, following steady growth from 55.4% in 2022. SRIJ noted that the figures remain preliminary until the fiscal year closes and may be revised in subsequent quarterly reports.
