Egyptian authorities are preparing to mass-block betting websites and mobile applications in the coming days, according to Ahmed Badawi, head of the country’s parliamentary committee on communications and IT.
Speaking to local media, Badawi said that 1xBet will be the primary target of the new restrictions, followed by other online bookmakers operating in the country.
From ad-hoc blocking to formal legislation
Until now, Egyptian authorities have relied on technical blocking via internet service providers, selectively restricting access to individual gambling sites and apps. However, the government now plans to codify these restrictions into law and enforce them systematically and nationwide.
According to Badawi, the upcoming measures aim to eliminate inconsistencies in enforcement and ensure that bans on online betting platforms are clearly defined and strictly applied in practice.
