Thai Cyanide Killer Had $2.8M Illegal Betting Account

A Thai woman sentenced to death twice for a series of cyanide poisonings held a gambling account with illegal iGaming operator Fun88, through which combined turnover on her account and that of her husband, a police lieutenant colonel, exceeded approximately $2.8 million, according to a report by Thairath. Investigators found that a portion of funds stolen from her victims flowed directly into the couple's accounts with the operator.

Prosecutors have filed a total of 15 cases against the woman, 14 of them on murder charges. The Criminal Court has already ruled on seven of these cases, issuing two death sentences, two life sentences, and three acquittals. The court found the killings were carried out to conceal fraud and unpaid debts, with all victims identified as her creditors, business partners in vehicle sales, or participants in informal savings groups she operated.

The case highlights how illegal gambling platforms can become embedded in broader financial crime schemes, with betting turnover on unlicensed operators serving as a channel for laundering or dissipating funds obtained through fraud. The ongoing court proceedings, with additional cases still pending review, continue to reveal the extent of the financial network connected to the killings.
