Dutch School Domain Used to Promote Unlicensed Online Casino

The former domain of a Dutch primary school is being used to promote unlicensed online gambling to consumers in the Netherlands, according to affiliate certification body Keurmerk Verantwoorde Affiliates (KVA).

KVA said its compliance team discovered gambling-related pages indexed by Google under the name and domain of Basisschool Amare in Driehuis, which closed after the 2025/26 school year. Searches for the school itself also displayed a gambling-related page at the top of the results.

The school's former website was basisschoolamare.nl, according to its 2025/26 school guide. Separate reporting based on SIDN domain records said ownership of the domain changed on September 10, 2026.

Mobile Visitors Were Redirected to an Online Casino

KVA found that the website behaved differently depending on how it was accessed.

Desktop visitors were presented with what appeared to be an unavailable website. Mobile users arriving through Google, however, were redirected to an online casino that accepted visitors from the Netherlands.

KVA said the behaviour appeared consistent with cloaking, a technique that serves different content or destinations depending on factors such as device type or how a visitor reaches a page. That can make the underlying destination more difficult to identify during routine monitoring.

The publicly accessible KVA post does not name the casino receiving the traffic. Separate reporting by CasinoNieuws identified the destination as a LuckyGem mirror site, rather than Mama.bet.

Dutch Regulator Has Already Acted Against LuckyGem

The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) has separately taken enforcement action against LuckyGem.

The Dutch regulator found that Virtual Connect S.R.L. offered gambling through LuckyGem without a licence under the Netherlands' Gambling Act and ordered the company to stop providing unlicensed gambling services.

CasinoNieuws reported that the version reached through the former school domain was a LuckyGem mirror that named a different company, Zenit World Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada, as its operator.

KVA regularly monitors search results and affiliate activity targeting Dutch players. The organisation certifies affiliates operating in the Netherlands and requires its members to promote only gambling operators licensed by the Ksa.

The case adds another example of expired or repurposed domains being used to gain search visibility for unlicensed gambling content. KVA said it would continue identifying such practices and bringing them to the attention of relevant parties and the wider enforcement network.
