Portimonense: 26 Players Accused of Betting on Own Matches

The Portuguese Football Federation's (FPF) disciplinary committee opened a case against 26 players who represented Portimonense in Portugal's third division during the 2025/26 season, according to a report by Record. The case file spans nearly 600 pages and was initiated following a complaint filed by an unnamed individual.

Among the players with the highest bet counts, Nuno Pereira placed 1,536 total bets, including 195 on third-division matches and 22 on his own team's games, 18 of which backed a loss for his team. Rodrigo Carvalho placed 915 bets, including 211 on third-division matches and 32 on his own team, 20 of which backed his team to lose. Gonçalo Correia placed 550 bets, Daniel Cunha placed 543, including 41 on third-division matches and 15 on his own team's games, 4 of which backed a loss, Alexandre Pimenta placed 449 bets, and Afonso Loja placed 408 bets, including 145 on third-division matches and 5 on his own team, all of which backed a loss.

Under Article 142 of the FPF's disciplinary regulations, betting on the outcome of an official match carries a fine ranging from 10 to 50 assessment units, while betting on a match or tournament involving the player themselves carries an additional risk of disqualification ranging from six months to three years. The accused players have already received formal notifications and must submit their defense by Monday, after which the case will move to a decision by the committee.
