NCAA Allows Casino Logos on Division I Uniforms

Sarah Connor

The NCAA began allowing Division I teams to display casino logos on game uniforms starting August 1, with the first agreements under the new rule signed by New Mexico State University and Florida International University. New Mexico State signed a three-year, $1.05 million contract with Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino in March, while FIU announced a partnership with Miccosukee Casino & Resort on the same three-year term on August 26.

The NCAA approved the underlying rule change in January, permitting up to two commercial patches, each no larger than 4 square inches, during regular season games. Both sponsoring casinos are land-based resorts operated by Native American tribes. Inn of the Mountain Gods has operated its own sportsbook since 2019, while Miccosukee does not offer sports betting, a distinction FIU's athletic director described as an important advantage given the current landscape of college sports sponsorship.

The rule change adds casino branding to the growing list of commercial sponsorship categories now permitted on college uniforms, reflecting broader financial pressures pushing NCAA programs toward new revenue sources. The distinction between casinos offering sports betting and those that do not may become a relevant factor for schools navigating public perception around gambling-adjacent sponsorships in collegiate athletics.
