Google will expand its gambling advertising policy in Slovenia from October 1, 2026, allowing licensed operators to advertise online casino games, sports betting and other permitted online gambling products.
Advertisers must hold a valid concession granted by the Slovenian government and be registered with the country's Ministry of Finance. They will also need to obtain gambling certification from Google before running campaigns.
The change expands Google's current Slovenia policy, under which the permitted online gambling category is limited to lotteries.
Slovenia's Ministry of Finance maintains separate registers covering traditional gambling concessions and online casino operations.
The latest online casino register lists Casino Portorož as the concession holder behind three websites: SuperCasino.si, 777Casino.si and Casino.si. SuperCasino.si is linked to Grand Casino Portorož, 777Casino.si to Grand Casino Lipica and Casino.si to Grand Casino MONS in Ljubljana.
The register does not list another online casino concessionaire. This means Casino Portorož's three brands form the current regulated online casino pool that could seek Google certification under the new policy.
HIT, which operates a substantial land-based casino business in Slovenia, does not appear in the Ministry of Finance's online casino register.
Slovenian authorities state that special games of chance can only be operated under a government concession. The Financial Administration can order restrictions against gambling websites operating without one.
The Ministry of Finance's register for classic games of chance lists two operators: Loterija Slovenije and Športna loterija.
Loterija Slovenije already allows customers to register and participate in its games online, while Športna loterija states that its online gambling system is connected to the regulator's information system and that its games operate under government concessions.
Taken together, the current registers leave a relatively small group of locally authorised gambling businesses that could qualify for the expanded Google Ads policy. Holding a Slovenian concession alone will not automatically permit advertising, as each advertiser must still satisfy Google's certification requirements.
Offshore operators without the required Slovenian authorisation would not meet Google's country-specific eligibility rules.
Google requires gambling advertisers to submit licensing information and obtain certification for the country they intend to target.
Destination websites must prominently display an age warning, responsible gambling resources, terms and conditions, the licensee's name and licence number, and information identifying the data controller.
Google also tightened the structure of gambling advertising accounts on August 26, 2026. A single Google Ads account cannot hold both an online gambling certification and a social casino games certification, meaning advertisers operating across both categories need separate accounts. Applications must also be submitted separately for each target country.
The Slovenia update was announced by Google on September 16 and is scheduled to take effect on October 1, when the company's country-specific gambling policy will be updated.
