Greek online gambling GGR rose 18.7% to €647.2 million in the first half of 2026, contributing around €102 million of the market's €116 million overall increase.

Greece's regulated gambling market generated €1.56 billion in gross gaming revenue during the first half of 2026, up 8% from €1.44 billion a year earlier, according to data from the Hellenic Gaming Commission.
Almost all of the additional revenue came from iGaming.
Online gambling GGR increased 18.7% to €647.2 million, adding approximately €102.1 million compared with the first half of 2025.
With the total regulated market expanding by around €116 million, iGaming accounted for approximately 88% of the overall increase.
The strong performance increased the online segment's share of Greece's regulated gambling market.
iGaming represented 41.5% of total GGR in the first half of 2026, up from 37.8% during the same period last year.
The land-based market remained larger in absolute terms, generating €910.6 million.
However, its GGR increased by only 1.6% year on year, significantly below the 18.7% expansion recorded online.
The figures show that Greece's market growth is increasingly being driven by digital betting and casino activity rather than by traditional land-based gambling.
Government revenue from gambling also increased faster than overall market GGR.
State proceeds reached €627.3 million during the first six months of 2026, up 14.4% from €548.3 million in the corresponding period of 2025.
The increase of €79 million reflects the growing fiscal contribution of the regulated gambling sector as online activity continues to expand.
The HGC figures do not mean that government revenue is equivalent to operator GGR. The two measures capture different parts of the market, with state proceeds including gambling-related taxes and other public revenues.
Longer-term forecasts point to further expansion of the Greek gambling industry.
A study by Deloitte Business Solutions projects that total gambling GGR could reach approximately €5.25 billion by 2040.
For the period from 2026 to 2030, the study forecasts average annual GGR growth of around 4.6%.
Online gambling is expected to continue gaining share and could generate roughly half of total market GGR by 2040.
That would extend the structural shift already visible in the first-half 2026 figures, where digital gambling was responsible for nearly nine tenths of market growth.
The regulated market is expanding alongside a substantial estimated illegal sector.
The HGC estimates the value of Greece's unlicensed gambling market at approximately €1.8 billion.
The regulator also estimates that around 10% of the population participates in gambling with illegal operators.
Those figures are regulatory estimates rather than directly observed GGR and should not be treated as equivalent to audited revenue from the licensed market.
For Greece, the central market trend remains clear: land-based gambling continues to generate the majority of regulated GGR, but iGaming is responsible for most of the industry's current growth and is steadily increasing its share of the market.
Greek online gambling GGR rose 18.7% to €647.2 million in the first half of 2026, contributing around €102 million of the market's €116 million overall increase.
Denmark's August gambling market was dragged lower by a sharp sports betting decline, while online casino GGR increased 12.5% and remained the largest liberalised segment.
The gambling streamer has not broadcast since September 28, while conflicting claims about an arrest, a heart attack and an escape from Cypriot police remain without official confirmation.
Authorities also requested the removal of 3,691 gambling-related social media pages, profiles and groups, including 1,027 Telegram communities with around 18.5 million members.
