Malta Publishes AI Guidelines for Gambling Operators
Malta's gambling regulator MGA published non-binding guidelines on responsible AI use in gambling, covering data protection, transparency, and human oversight.
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), together with the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, has developed guidelines on the use of AI in gambling, according to a report by NEXT.io. The document explains to operators how to implement the technology safely and responsibly, complementing existing laws including the EU AI Act.
The guidelines cover data protection, AI transparency, human oversight, and preventing discrimination. For example, players should understand when they are interacting with AI, and important decisions should not be left entirely without human involvement. MGA is urging operators to appoint responsible staff members, monitor AI usage, and regularly train their teams. The guidelines are not mandatory and do not introduce new requirements.
