Brazil Players Have Until Midnight to Withdraw Betting Balances

Brazilian players can voluntarily withdraw funds from licensed betting and casino platforms until 23:59 on October 5 before sites and apps become unavailable on October 6.

Brazilian players have less than a day to voluntarily withdraw remaining balances from licensed sportsbooks and online casinos before the country's regulated betting platforms are taken offline.

Under Provisional Measure No. 1,394, customers have until 23:59 on October 5 to request withdrawals directly through operator websites and apps.

From October 6, licensed betting sites and applications must become unavailable as Brazil implements its prohibition on fixed-odds sports betting and online casino games.

Players who miss the deadline will not lose their balances. The government has established a separate bank-led process for returning funds that remain on operator accounts after the shutdown.

Banks Will Return Remaining Balances Automatically

Once platforms are taken offline, operators must provide financial institutions with details of outstanding player balances, identified by each customer's CPF number and the bank account from which deposits originated.

The Ministry of Finance's latest timetable requires this information to be transferred on October 6 and 7.

Banks will then be responsible for returning the remaining money between October 9 and 14.

Players will therefore not need to access the gambling platforms themselves once the voluntary withdrawal period has ended.

The government has stressed that balances remain the property of players throughout the process.

Caixa Will Handle Failed Bank Refunds

Where a bank cannot complete a refund because of an operational problem, the money will move into a separate process involving state-owned Caixa Econômica Federal.

From October 14, Caixa will act as an intermediary for balances that could not be returned through the original financial institution.

The government has not specified a final deadline by which every balance transferred to Caixa must reach the player.

That creates a practical reason for customers with accessible accounts to complete withdrawals before the October 5 deadline rather than rely on the later reimbursement mechanism.

Operators must maintain sufficient liquidity to cover all outstanding player balances, voided bets and prizes that remain payable.

More Than R$650 Million Already Withdrawn

The shutdown has already triggered significant withdrawals from regulated betting accounts.

The government said player balances fell by R$652.6 million, approximately $125 million, after the prohibition was announced.

Total funds held on betting platforms declined from around R$2.1 billion to R$1.453 billion, approximately $278 million, a reduction of about 31%.

The remaining balance was distributed across approximately 28.65 million CPF records with positive account balances.

Brazilian authorities have repeatedly urged players to withdraw directly before the deadline, describing this as the simplest way to recover their money.

Regulated Market Shuts Down on October 6

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the provisional measure on September 25.

The measure immediately prohibited new deposits and introduced a transition period allowing existing customers to recover their funds before regulated operators close their Brazilian platforms.

From October 6, websites and apps offering fixed-odds betting must become unavailable.

The government is simultaneously increasing enforcement against offshore operators, gambling advertising and payment infrastructure supporting unauthorised betting.

For licensed operators, October 5 marks the final day on which customers can manage remaining balances directly through their accounts before responsibility for unresolved funds shifts to financial institutions and, where necessary, Caixa.
