1xCare and FEJAR Sign Partnership Framework for Online Gambling Support

The organisations will explore wider access to FEJAR’s online therapy, with funding and specific services subject to separate agreements and treatment decisions remaining independent.

1xCare and Spain’s Federación Española de Jugadores de Azar Rehabilitados (FEJAR) have signed a Memorandum of Partnership to cooperate on preventing gambling-related harm and improving access to support.

Announced on October 28, the agreement initially focuses on exploring ways to strengthen access to FEJAR’s online therapy and support services, particularly for people facing geographical or other barriers to receiving help in person.

Specific Projects Require Separate Agreements

The memorandum establishes general principles for cooperation. Individual initiatives, including funding commitments, defined services and any processing of personal data, will require separate written agreements.

Those agreements will also be subject to due diligence and each organisation’s governance procedures. The announcement does not specify a funding amount, implementation timetable or target number of people to receive support.

The partnership is non-exclusive, allowing both organisations to maintain other relationships while retaining their independence.

FEJAR Retains Control Over Care

FEJAR will remain responsible for its professional methods, therapeutic processes and decisions concerning individual beneficiaries.

According to the announcement, support provided through the collaboration cannot depend on endorsing a commercial product or gambling operator. It must not be used for marketing or customer acquisition, and neither 1xCare nor donors will gain access to beneficiaries or influence over individual care. Confidentiality and personal data safeguards are to follow GDPR requirements.

Simon Westbury, chairperson of 1xCare, described the organisation’s role as helping improve access while respecting FEJAR’s expertise. FEJAR president Gerardo Rodríguez Velo similarly emphasised accessible assistance, professional independence and the needs of affected individuals and their families.

The initial work concerns FEJAR’s existing online services. Any expansion of those services will depend on the specific projects subsequently agreed between the organisations.
